Toyota Canada at 2016 Nîmes-Alès Eco-Rally
We’re always talking about these great races where Toyota drivers sit behind the wheel of Toyota cars and run wild across the United States and other countries around the world, but what about home? What about races happening right here in Canada? Well, we’ve finally got some local race news, as Toyota Canada was present at the 2016 Nîmes-Alès Eco-Rally. While not a normal race by any means, nor one that is quite as exciting as a trail run or hill climb, the eco-rally in southern France showcases some incredible eco-friendly battles duking it out in similar fashion.
“For almost two decades, Toyota has developed and built advanced hybrid vehicles that are cleaner, fuel efficient, fun to drive, and easy to adopt by drivers around the world – and events such as this eco-rally are how we prove to Canadians that our hybrids are more than ready for the real world. We’re proud of Vinh and Alan for their excellent performance, which confirms that the 2016 Toyota Prius shatters the perceptions of what’s possible in a hybrid.”
– Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc.
Who won the hybrid category at Nîmes-Alès Eco-Rally?
Toyota Canada sent two of its own rally drivers – Vinh Pham and Alan Ockwell – to the very first Nîmes-Alès eco-rally along with an all-new 2016 Toyota Prius. The two rally drivers have worked together for roughly 8 years and have won and impressed in several races along the way, including winning the Canadian Alternative Energy Cup in 2012 behind the wheel of a Prius Plug-in.
At the Nîmes-Alès eco-rally, which ran from June 24-26, Pham and Ockwell pushed the new Prius to the limit along the 300-kilometre-plus track until they got the victory in the hybrid class. We’ve got plenty of information on the 2016 Toyota Prius’ specs & features and other information around the site, so be sure to check it out!
