What is the Toyota 86?

As you may know, the Scion FR-S was originally introduced for the 2012 model year in Canada and the United States. Due to a partnership between Toyota and Subaru, it was also released globally as the Subaru BRZ. The one bit of information you might not know, is that in Asia, South Africa, South America and Australia, the Scion FR-S was actually released as the Toyota 86. Now that Scion is no more, the 2016 Scion FR-S will be absorbed into Toyota and renamed the Toyota 86.

Several new features will be added to the vehicle, including things like LED headlamps, turn signals and taillights, a fresh garnish design on the fender, new bumpers in the front and back, as well as newly-designed wheels. Some other changes will occur in the vehicle’s transition, like a slight boost to horsepower. The all-new 2017 Toyota 86 will be on display later this week at the New York International Auto Show, and more information may be made available after its official debut.
